On the first anniversary of Marin’s passing, we asked everyone who ever had any opportunity to meet Marin to share their stories with us. Thank you, Keiti, for allowing us to share it with others.
How did you know Marin: AP Human Geo
I had seen Marin throughout the halls but never really had an opportunity to talk to her. We only ever had the opportunity to share one class, AP Human Geography, and to this day it’s one of my favorite classes I ever took. She is one of the main reasons for that. She sat in the desk in the row next to me and she was the first person to talk to me. I was the only junior in that class hour, and so I hadn’t really planned on talking to anyone but we quickly became friends and permanent project partners for the rest of the year. We would always bring snacks to class and exchange them with one another. I always looked forward to 3rd hour because I knew I would get to talk to her and our other friend who sat next to us.
We partnered up for the final project in the class, where we had to go to several different locations and take photos, but both of us were too busy to find the time to do so. I ended up taking two bad pictures of us and photoshopping them in front of the locations we were supposed to go. The picture was very obviously edited because the lighting was completely off, and the sizes of our bodies were funny, but the laugh we shared over it and the time we spent arguing with our professor trying to convince him it was a real photo is something absolutely priceless to me. This is one of my favorite, and last memories I got to make with her. I wish we could have had another class together, but I’ll always treasure 3rd hour AP Human Geo that I spent with her.
