Marin Story – Addy Placko

#BeThe22 #MarinsFriends

On the first anniversary of Marin’s passing, we asked everyone who ever had any opportunity to meet Marin to share their stories with us. Thank you, Addy, for allowing us to share it with others.

How did you know Marin: I met Marin through lacrosse back in the IGLA days in about second grade and we have been on every team together since then.

My favorite thing about Marin was just how enjoyable and interesting she was to be around. My favorite memory was when we were on JV our sophomore year and we were crushing the other team we were playing. Marin and I were talking waiting for the next draw to start up on the field and she was telling me how she hasn’t gotten a goal in a while and I told her that if I get the chance I’ll give the ball to her because I knew she had the skills to just drive it to get that goal. Since we were beating the other team by a lot our favorite coach told us to stop shooting because we didn’t want to be disrespectful to the other team. Then, of course Marin had the perfect opportunity to get that shot in so I yelled to her to “just shoot it” and she did. It was such a perfect moment even though we knew our coach would be mad at us. After she got the goal we ran up to each other for a big hug and celebrated. We then got taken off of the field for bad sportsmanship. But I will forever be grateful that I have the photo of that hug. Marin is the most beautiful and fun person and she has taught me so much.
