On the first anniversary of Marin’s passing, we asked everyone who ever had any opportunity to meet Marin to share their stories with us. Thank you, Maddy, for allowing us to share it with others.

How did you know Marin: Friend

I’ve known Marin since we were 5. I’ve played barbies with her at recess, sat with her at girl scout meetings, gone to school dances, and studied for AP tests, all with her. One of the most notable memories I have of Marin is 5th hour AP world. Every day, we’d meet outside the door before Ms. Duffy unlocked it and show each other what song we were listening to, and 90% of the time it was one both of us loved. Almost every day in class she would take one of the rings off my finger and propose to me during class. My 2021-2022 camera roll is filled with photos of her proposing in that class. We always sat next to each other, and we were default partners for every assignment or project we had to do. My notebook was 2/3rds lecture notes and 1/3rd notes Marin wrote in my notebook or on ripped sheets of paper and slipped to me during class.
