Marin Story – Ellie Ewalt

#BeThe22 #MarinsFriends

On the first anniversary of Marin’s passing, we asked everyone who ever had any opportunity to meet Marin to share their stories with us. Thank you, Ellie, for allowing us to share it with others.

How did you know Marin: Friend and teammate

I met Marin in second-grade Chinese immersion class. Having just moved from California and being a more shy kid, I remember being very anxious at a new school. All worry and stress completely dissolved when a bubbly and bright Marin approached me at recess and invited me to join her. Even with our differing personalities we quickly became inseparable. We would spend countless recesses drawing and creating comic books about two cats on various adventures, acting out our scenes, or geeking out on the newest Warrior Cats book and Pokemon. Outside of school, Marin and I would spend as many weekends as we could together begging our moms to let us have sleepovers. I remember chasing down my Chickens, building Legos, playing the Wii, staying up till midnight trying to catch legendary Pokemon on our DS’s, and so so much more. When my mom suggested I try playing lacrosse, I immediately went to Marin and begged her to do it with me. It didn’t take much convincing, that was the way we were, all of my interests were hers and all of hers were mine. I will forever cherish our lacrosse carpool rides, rewatching every Shrek movie, and pleading with our parents for a treat after every practice. Marin was the reason I stuck with lacrosse for so long and I’m so grateful to have been able to play alongside her and have her be my partner for so many years. Without Marin in my life, I truly believe I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
